What is the credit that can be applied for Drain Water Heat Recovery (DWHR) systems?
Answer:
These 2 criteria must be met before any credit for DWHR can be used.
- Credits may be applied for DWHR units on the NRCan (Natural Resources Canada) approved list of eligible equipment below.
- The DWHR unit must be installed on all vertical plumbing stacks serving two or more showers to obtain a full energy credit. If only one shower is served then the half credit amount can be applied.
Certified Units.
- EcoInnovation S3-40 (Eco-GFX 2340) full credit 1418 kWh, half credit 709 kWh
- EcoInnovation S4-40 (Eco-GFX 2440) full credit 1418 kWh, half credit 709 kWh
- ThermoDrain TD340-A (EcoInnovation G3-40) full credit 1673 kWh, half credit 837 kWh
- EcoInnovation S3-60 (Eco-GFX 2360) full credit 1782 kWh, half credit 891 kWh
- EcoInnovation S4-60 (Eco-GFX 2460) full credit 1854 kWh, half credit 927 kWh
How do you model the DWHR and credits within HOT2000?
Answer:
- 1. Ensure that you are operating the HOT2000 v9.34c software in the new housing EnerGuide mode.
- 2. Under the house tree, click on "Base Loads," click on the "Energy Credit" tab and then go to "Other Credits" at the bottom of the tab.
- 3. Select the check box under "Other Credits" and add a description of the DWHR unit (i.e. DWHR unit model xxx) and specify in KWh the credit noted from the table above. This will provide a credit and impact the EnerGuide rating. Select the check box under "Other Credits" and add a description of the DWHR unit and specify in kWh the credit noted from above. (Example G3-40 1673 kWh) This will provide a credit and impact the EnerGuide rating.
- 4. Under the house tree, click on "Domestic Hot Water" and model the DHW system as you would as if there were no DWHR unit.
In HOT 2000 version 9.34 or greater that is all that is required. In HOT 2000 version 10.31 or greater, click on the "Drain Water Heat Recovery" box and click on the most appropriate efficiency scale. At this time, under the new housing program, click the DWHR check box and select the appropriate efficiency range is completed for statistics purpose only and does not affect calculations
