Connection types
Identifying the best connection mode and configuration for ECO-GFX units within a plumbing system can be a complex task as this requires many considerations. In a simplified manner, there exist three connection modes that may be connected in three configurations.
Connection modes:
The connection mode will affect several factors that include the cold potable water flow rate in relation to the drain water flow rate, the distribution of the preheated cold water exiting the ECO-GFX and the systems pressure drop. These are factors to be taken into consideration when selecting the optimum connection mode.
Three possible connection modes exist:
- Preheating of the cold water and of the hot water (equal flow mode);
- Preheating of the cold water side only (unequal flow mode, type « A »);
- Preheating of the hot water side only (unequal flow mode, type « B »).
Connection configurations:
The connection configuration refers to the placement of the ECO-GFX units with respect to one another in a building and the circulation in series or in parallel of the drain and potable water. It is important to note that all connection modes can be used for these configurations, each of which has limitations and advantages.
- Single unit installation;
- Multiple unit installation, preheated water in series;
- Multiple unit installation, preheated water in parallel.
